The Ragin Cajuns has always had a reputation, at least to me , as being the little engine that could. The team always going up against much larger schools has managed to attract the right players to put together championship level teams year after year.
Much of that success has been in a big part thanks to head coach Michael Lotief who has had to battle his own problems in life like overcoming cancer. Known as someone who looks after his players it has created some tensions between him and the school’s administration.
Lotief had been on administrative leave since October 6 and it was recently revealed that he has been let go by the school. According to the director of Louisiana Athletics Dr. Bryan Maggard a national search for a new head softball coach will begin immediately.
This has been a year of big coaching changes with many unexpectd changes but this one will really make a big impact on The Ragin Cajun’s softball program. Lotief had the support of most players with nearly all of the them writing a letter that they then sent to local Lafayette television station KATC in support of him and against the unjust treatment he was receiving from the school.
