Its been a time of big changes for the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Softball program recently. In a year that has seen many coaching changes one of the biggest was the firing of head coach Michael Lotief. He was replaced with Gerry Glasco who has coached the previous nine seasons in the SEC and is considered one of the nation’s top offensive coaches and recruiters. He helped lead Texas A&M to the 2017 Women’s College World Series and was recently appointed associate head coach at Auburn before accepting the Ragin’ Cajuns head coach position.
Head coach Glasco moved quickly filling out his coaching staff. The staff includes assistant coaches Ellen Renfroe Reed and Joe Guthrie, volunteer assistant Courtnay Foster and director of operations Jon Reed. Glasco’s staff members have head coaching experience and were highly successful collegiate athletes. Renfroe Reed (Tennessee) and Foster (Northwestern University) earned NFCA All-American honors and led their respective schools to the Women’s College World Series.
Glasco lost one of the teams star players though when shortstop DJ Sanders recently transferred from the program to play at Oregon her senior year.
“During this transition period, we understand each student-athlete has a personal decision to make. We met with senior shortstop DJ Sanders several times during the one-on-one interview process and reiterated the program’s commitment to her and the commitment to competing for a national title,” Glasco said. “We appreciate all she has done for our program and wish her nothing but the best in the future.”
