In Texas Invitational action Friday junior lefty Brooke Bolinger fired her first career shutout in a 3-0 victory for host team Texas over Michigan. In what was an offense starved game sophomore catcher Taylor Ellsworth supplied all the firepower with her three-run HR in the 3rd inning. In Friday night action Texas took a 4-0 lead over Wichita State before they put up two runs in the third, three in the fourth and two more in the fifth to rally past Texas to win 7-5. Texas’ freshman pitcher Chloe Romero suffered the loss but starter Erica Wright set the groundwork for it giving up five earned runs on five hits in her 3.2 innings pitched. In relief, surprise Texas ace, Paige von Sprecken struck out three and permitted just one base knock over 2.2 innings. In Saturday afternoon action Texas came-from-behind for a 3-2 victory over Virginia Tech in the Texas Invitational. Texas freshman starter Chloe Romero got the start but with one out in the top of the first ran into trouble and senior Paige von Sprecken entered the game to get the win in her 6.2 innings of relief work. Down to its final out in the top of the seventh inning on Saturday night in Texas Invitational action Ohio State got a grand slam off the bat of second baseman Emily Clark to complete a late rally past Texas softball, 8-5. On Sunday afternoon in the Texas Invitational Michigan put up four runs in the second inning on the way to defeating Texas 4-0.

The Florida Gators softball team defeated Oakland University, 6-2 and 10-0 (5), in doubleheader action Wednesday night at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium. Then Florida got a pair of victories over Maryland, 7-2, and Illinois State, 10-1, on the first day of the Aquafina Invitational at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium. In the first game Kelly Barnhill (5-0) threw her third complete-game of the season and struck out nine en route to the victory while in the second game Aleshia Ocasio relieved starter Chronister with one out in the bottom of the third to pick up the win. Florida defeated Maryland, 12-0, and Iowa State, 8-0, on the second day of the Aquafina Invitational. Kelly Barnhill, Aleshia Ocasio and Natalie Lugo handled the pitching duties. Barnhill threw her fourth career no-hitter against Iowa State while Aleshia Ocasio pitched three perfect innings against Maryland. Lugo allowed only one hit to the Terps through her two innings. In the first game of the day, Aleshia Ocasio threw her second complete-game shutout of the season in a 3-0 win over Iowa State. Then Florida capped the Aquafina Invitational as right-handed pitcher Kelly Barnhill hurled the first perfect game of her career in an 8-0 victory over Georgia Southern. It’s the eighth overall, seventh individual, perfect game in Florida softball history.

Louisiana’s sophomore pitcher Summer Ellyson threw her first a no-hitter, facing only two batters over the minimum in a 4-0 over Southeastern Louisiana this week. Its the first no-hitter by a Ragin’ Cajuns pitcher since May 19, 2017 vs. McNeese in NCAA Baton Rouge Regional (Alex Stewart). Friday’s contest between Louisiana and North Florida at Lamson Park in Lafayette, La. ended with a 8-6 win for the Ragin’ Cajuns. In Saturday’s contest Louisiana lost to North Florida at Lamson Park 1-0. Saturday’s contest between Louisiana and UMBC at Lamson Park ended with a final score of Louisiana- 7, UMBC- 4. Sunday’s contest between Louisiana and Memphis ended in a 6-3 11 innings win for Louisiana.

South Carolina got a pair of wins over Louisville (S. Carolina 5 Louisville 3) and Bradley(S Carolina 8 Bradley 0) to open the D9 Citrus Classic on Friday at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. Cayla Drotar and Kelsey Oh earned the victories while Dixie Raley picked up a save. South Carolina got two wins on Saturday in the D9 Citrus Classic at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. The Gamecocks started the day with a 12-0 win over Miami (OH) in five innings before closing the day with a 1-0 win over South Alabama. South Carolina got a 15-0 win in five innings over Lehigh on Sunday to close out the D9 Citrus Classic. The game included two South Carolina grand slams, one by Tiara Duffy and the other by Jana Johns.

Cal State Fullerton freshman pitcher Taylor Dockins threw a no-hitter against the University of San Diego Thursday night.

Alabama opened Friday’s play at the Easton Bama Bash with a pair of wins, defeating Georgia State, 5-1, and Florida State, 3-0.

Saint Francis (PA.) got two shutout wins on Friday at the Pirate Invitational, hosted by East Carolina. The Red Flash defeated Canisius, 1-0, in game one and ECU, 2-0, in game two, and has now won four straight games.

Thursday afternoon the Rebels picked up victories over Murray State (Ole Miss 4, Murray State 2 )and Tennessee Tech (Ole Miss 12, Tennessee Tech 2) Friday. Sunday Ole Miss won against SIUE 1-0 thanks to Kaitlin Lee’s shutdown mound effort in a rainy home opener at the Ole Miss Softball Complex.

The University of Pittsburgh softball team swept on day one of the Chanticleer Showdown, as the Panthers defeated Georgetown (Pitt 2, Georgetown 0) and Saint Joseph’s (Pitt 7, Saint Joseph’s 1) at Coastal Carolina Softball Field in Conway, S.C. The University of Pittsburgh split on day two of the Chanticleer Showdown, Saturday falling to Georgetown (Georgetown 5, Pitt 3) before defeating the Chanticleers (Pitt 4, Coastal Carolina 3) at Coastal Carolina Softball Field in Conway, S.C. The University of Pittsburgh fell to Saint Joseph’s in its final contest of the Chanticleer Showdown, 8-6, Sunday, Feb. 25 at Coastal Carolina Softball Field in Conway, S.C.

Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic Tournament News:

Tennessee’s high-powered offense was on full display on Thursday, as the Lady Vols opened the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic with a 13-0 victory in five innings over BYU. Then Senior Meghan Gregg went 3-for-4 with a home run to lead Tennessee to a 7-1 win over Bethune-Cookman later Thursday at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic. Tennessee continued its dominant start to the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic with a 7-0 shutout win over UC Davis on Saturday. Matty Moss got the win while Caylan Arnold struck out six in her four innings of relief work. Tennessee defeated Oregon State 9-3 on Friday to wrap up the second day of the Mary Nutter Classic. Senior Meghan Gregg’s RBI double in the first inning backed by a strong pitching effort from junior Matty Moss was enough for Tennessee to get a 1-0 win over Oregon on Saturday at the Mary Nutter Classic. Chelsea Seggern drove in three runs, and Caylan Arnold struck out a season-high 13, as Tennessee defeated Northwestern 6-1 on Saturday in the Mary Nutter Classic.

The 14-0 Auburn Tigers beat Notre Dame in their first game in Cathedral City, but lost to Wisconsin 3-2 later.

Texas A&M also defeated Notre Dame 5-3 Thursday at the tourney before suffering their first loss of the season to Nebraska, 6-3, Thursday night to close out day one of the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic. Pitcher Trinity Harrington took the loss in the circle. Texas A&M rallied to defeat Oregon, 3-1, before defeating California, 5-1, Friday on day two of the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic.In game one Lexi Smith got the win while freshman Maddie MacGrandle earned the win in game two. Texas A&M softball fell to Washington, 4-3, in nine innings Saturday to close out the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic. Pitcher Samantha Show got the loss for the Aggies.

Mizzou Softball opened its trip at the Mary Nutter Classic Thursday with a doubleheader against BYU and Arizona. The Tigers opened their day with an 8-6 victory over the Cougars and fell 9-4 to the Wildcats in game two. Mizzou then took care of business quickly Friday with a 9-0 run-rule shutout victory over North Carolina. It marked the Tigers’ first run-rule win of the season, while recording its second shutout win. Mizzou Softball won both of their games played on Saturday first defeating Wisconsin 7-3 then Bethune-Cookman 8-0. Mizzou concluded its four-day stay at the Mary Nutter Classic Sunday with a 4-0 loss to UCLA.

On Saturday UCLA defeated LSU 9-1 in a run-rule shortened 5 inning game. UCLA pounded out 13 hits compared to LSU’s 2. R. Garcia got the win while LSU’s A. Walljasper took the loss.

After falling to Arizona State, 3-1, to open Thursday action at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic, Mississippi State softball bounced back with a 9-0 victory over Nebraska in five innings. A come-from-behind victory over San Jose State 6-4 highlighted Mississippi State softball’s final day of competition at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic as the Bulldogs spilt Saturday’s doubleheader slate suffering a loss to Cal State Fullerton by a score of 4-1.
