ACC/Big Ten Softball Challenge Matchups Set

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten and Atlantic Coast Conferences announced recently the matchups for the 2019 ACC/Big Ten Softball Challenge. The fourth annual event will feature 10 schools from each conference, with eight of those schools playing four games each at four campus sites, while two more compete at the inaugural ESPN St. Pete/Clearwater Elite Invitational in Clearwater, Fla., all during a four-day period from Feb. 14-17, 2019.

Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Michigan State, Nebraska, Northwestern, Penn State and Wisconsin will represent the Big Ten in the Challenge games. On the ACC side, Duke, Georgia Tech, North Carolina and N.C. State will serve as host sites for this year’s Challenge, with the other ACC participants being Boston College, Louisville, Pittsburgh and Syracuse.

The Big Ten and ACC have virtually identical records through the first three years of the Challenge. The Big Ten has been led by Michigan, which went 4-0 during the inaugural event in 2016, while Minnesota and Penn State posted 4-0 records in 2017, and Nebraska and Ohio State went a conference-best 3-1 last season.

The Big Ten and ACC offices collaborate to determine the schedule each season. In addition, the official title of the Challenge rotates each year. The 2019 event will be referred to as the ACC/Big Ten Softball Challenge and will continue to mirror the official title of the conferences’ Challenge agreements for men’s basketball, women’s basketball and volleyball.

Game times, as well as television and online coverage, will be announced at a later date. The complete schedule of ACC/Big Ten Softball Challenge matchups can be found below.
