Last years Tiger team went 45-17 overall and 13-10 in the SEC. This years team lineup is a even mix of returning players (13) and newcomers (10) including transfer Amanda Sanchez from Missouri.
The biggest hole that needs to be filled this years is the loss of pitching aces, Carley Hoover and Allie Walljasper, who both graduated. Last year LSU had a team ERA of 1.57 with 392 strikeouts thanks to the two big arms. It will be up to returning junior Maribeth Gorsuch ( 9-3 record, 2.10 ERA in 2018 ) to pick up the slack along with freshmen, Ali Kilponen, Shelby Wickersham and Baylie Thornhill to step in and one of them grab the number two pitching slot.
Gone also due to graduation is Emily Griggs but there will be some familiar faces left including, Aliyah Andrews and Amanda Doyle to provide some hits for the offense.
Last years team made it to the Tallahassee Super Regional round in the playoffs winning their first game against FSU before losing the next two and being eliminated from the tournament by the eventual 2019 champion’s FSU.
This year LSU opens their 2019 regular season at Tiger Park on February 7 where they’ll be hosting Tulsa to kick off the Tiger Classic February 7-10.
LSU under the guidance of head coach Beth Torina has been a perennial playoff team and this year should be no different even with them having to rebuild their pitching staff.
