Last years team made it to the Tucson Regional round in the playoffs before ending their season with a records of 38-23 overall and 7-17 in the SEC. It was the program’s sixth NCAA Tournament appearance over the last seven seasons.
This year’s team will be a mix of returning players, newcomers and several transfers. At the top of those returning players list is catcher Mia Davidson who last season was named to the, First Team All-SEC and Freshman All-SEC teams. She hit .370 BA with 19 HRs and 48 RBIs. You’ll also find 10 newcomers, including 7 true freshmen in this year’s Bulldog’s lineup. The three transfers include junior college transfer Christian Quinn along with Arizona State’s Alyssa Loza, a right-handed pitcher with a 1.17 ERA for the last two seasons and Ulufa Leilua, a home run hitting outfielder. It isn’t all new faces though as the team also includes 18 returning players from last years team.
Mississippi State will need some pitching help with the loss by graduation of pitching starters, Holly Ward (1.43 ERA 16-10 173 SO) and Cassady Knudsen (2.77 ERA 13-9 136 SO) from last years squad.
With the loss of several key players and a lot of new faces on the team it will depend how fast they can come together as a team that will determine how far this team will go this season. They should be able to make it in to this years playoffs.
