Alabama softball 2020 preview

Last season Alabama finished with a 60-10 record, won their fifth SEC regular-season title and made it to WCWS. That was last season this year things are expected to be even better for the Crimson Tide team. They have been picked in several prominent preseason polls to win it all this season and be the 2020 D1 Champions.

That lofty goal is expected to happen thanks to head coach Patrick Murphy returning for his 22nd year with Alabama. And the fact that Murphy has 13 returning players from last years team. These aren’t your average players either it’s a group of all-stars including All-American Montana Fouts (21-6, 1.39 ERA, 193 strikeouts) and SEC Pitcher of the Year Sarah Cornell (22-1, 2.50 ERA). These two pitchers ruled the circle last season.

Offensively Alabama also has lots of power returning for the season including long ball hitter Bailey Hemphill who last season hit for a .375 average with 26 homeruns and 84 RBIs. Kaylee Tow can also hit for power finishing with a .309 BA in 2019 with 10 homeruns and 62 RBIs.

Alabama also is blessed with speed on the bases lead by Elissa Brown who went 48-54 in stolen base attempts last season.

Joining all that talent is six new player including five freshmen along with Oregon graduate transfer Alexis Mack.

Unless there is a major injury or for some reason the team totally melts down look for the Crimson Tide to make it back to the WCWS and have a good chance at bringing another championship back home to Alabama and the Rhoads Stadium faithful.
